Activities

Activities we'll be organizing  for Mid-Atlantic Mod include:

  • Plenty of social sewing time - the sewing room is accessible from morning until very late at night
  • Various short hands-on workshops - see workshop page
  • Swap(s)- a blind swap and a multi-day secret sewist swap for another assign sewist
  • Cocktail Mixer - we'll step away from our machines and take some time to get to know each other and have a few laughs
  • Local shop hops - nothing formal, but there will likely be carpooled trips to the area shops, because none of us ever have enough fabric.
  • Progressive Quilts -
    • These are collaborative quilts worked on by about a dozen quilters.
    • Each quilter will piece a section (about a large block) at home based on a defined theme and some fabric will be provided.
    • Each quilter will work on the top for 1.5 to 2 hours during the retreat.
    • We will have a couple of brief discussions of the direction of the quilt which you can choose to participate in.
    • Be prepared to see some of your work altered (even blocks cut down or added to) or for the top to come out different from what you envisioned.  It's about trying to make all the different interpretations work as whole, and sometimes the coolest designs come from changing it up.
    • One random quilter gets to take the top home at the end of the weekend.
    • Can't wait to see what the finished quilt tops look like!  We'll be instagraming progress at #midatlanticmod and #progressivequilt.
  • And more ...
